Luke Holloway, better known as Lewky, is redefining comedy music for a new generation. You’ve definitely heard his viral I Have One Daughter song which is on the cusp of 20 million TikTok views.
With his unique blend of pop, musical theatre, and internet humour, he’s gone from an under-the-radar producer to a viral sensation in a year. I caught up with him to talk about his journey from Berklee to TikTok stardom, his creative process, and his big ambitions in musical theatre.
Lewky’s musical roots run deep. Having studied music production at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, he honed his skills in a way that’s now serving him well. His journey didn’t stop there, though; he also trained in musical theatre writing at the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, a place that has helped shape some of Broadway’s most iconic talents, like Alan Menken and Bobby Lopez.
"I've always been into musical theatre, especially the idea of combining dialogue and music," Lewky shares. “What I’m doing now is essentially a form of musical theatre, but with a pop twist. I like to take funny, bizarre conversations and turn them into songs. It’s just a fun way to bring more of a pop aesthetic into musical theatre.”
As a producer and songwriter, Lewky has built a name for himself through his TikTok and Instagram videos, where he transforms meme-worthy conversations into catchy tunes. This formula has earned him millions of views, but it wasn’t always his plan.
“The original goal was always musical theatre. I wanted to make a name for myself in the industry, but also as a producer,” he says. “Becoming an influencer wasn’t really something I expected. I didn’t even have TikTok a year ago, and now I’m doing things I never imagined."
Despite his rapid rise, Lewky admits the fame has come with its challenges. “I’m naturally introverted, so it’s been a bit of a shift having so much attention,” he confesses. “But it’s great to have the doors open for me. It’s helped me step away from gigging as a musician, which I’ve been doing to make a living.”
Lewky’s creative process is a fine balance of inspiration and quick production. Each week, he combs through DMs and internet conversations sent by his followers, looking for something quirky or absurd to turn into a song.
“I’ll get sent conversations from apps, or just funny things people say, and I pick the ones that have a punchline or that are just bizarre enough to turn into a track,” he explains. “I’ll come up with a melody, start producing the track, and then film and edit everything in about a day. It's pretty fast-paced.”
It’s no surprise that his viral hits, like I Have One Daughter and Do You Do Cocaine, have captured the internet’s attention. But for Lewky, the process isn’t about chasing virality. "I didn’t expect some of these to blow up. I thought I Have One Daughter would just do okay,” he admits. “It went completely nuts. You never really know what will take off.”
He tells us that his favourite song is Moo for Me, and he’s super proud of the musical melodies he came up with. To be fair, I’ve had about three stuck in my head since I discovered him on TikTok.
While he’s clearly enjoying his newfound fame, Lewky is quick to remind us that his heart lies in music. "I definitely want to produce more serious music. I love working with other artists. I’m kind of tired of hearing my own voice on tracks," he says. "I’d love to work with great singers and writers, that’s been a goal of mine for a while now."
And he’s not just talking about collaboration; Lewky is looking to move beyond singles and create a full album. “Some of these songs are only 30 seconds long, so I’m working on extending them and getting other artists involved,” he reveals. “I’d love to release an album or even a vinyl one day. That’s the dream."
Amidst his TikTok stardom, Lewky is also working on a musical that blends his love for pop and musical theatre. The show, called Troop, is a queer, historical musical set in the 1920s about a troop of drag performers who served in World War I.
“It’s based on real people and real events. There were drag queens in New York in the 1920s who were also possibly trans. The show’s all about exploring their stories," he says. “It’s going to be a drag show, but set to pop music. Think Lady Gaga meets Chappell Roan and Charli XCX with some Broadway flair.”
Lewky recently had a reading of the show’s first act, and he’s excited to continue developing it. “It’s amazing to see something that’s entirely queer with a cast that diverse. And I’m pumped to provide the pop songs for them,” he says. It sounds like a perfect match for his skills, too.
For now, Lewky is focused on balancing his internet career with his musical theatre aspirations. “The future is all about merging those worlds. I’m just taking it one step at a time,” he says.
With his TikTok following skyrocketing and his musical theatre projects gaining momentum, Lewky’s journey is just beginning.
Keep an eye out for Troop and more of Lewky’s hilarious music in the future. This is one producer whose career is shaping up to be anything but predictable.
