“We should make a band,” teased solo artists Ashe and FINNEAS.
Despite releasing their own projects and embarking on separate tours, they hustled behind closed doors and recently surprised fans by debuting their new band, “The Favors.” Made up of 4 members, including Finneas and Ashe, as well as Ricky Gourmet on guitar and David Marinelli on the drums, the group is set to release their first album on September 19th. Consisting of 12 whimsical, heartfelt, and deeply meaningful tracks, The Dream, is sure to blow everyone away. Though the band may be just taking its first steps, the friendship and collaboration between Finneas and Ashe have a long-standing history.
The pair first joined forces back in 2021, on the release of Ashe’s third single, “Till Forever Falls Apart,” for her debut studio album Ashlyn. The song was co-written, produced, and features vocals by Finneas himself. With touching lyrics and raw sound, this beautiful ballad saw massive TikTok virality and received RIAA Gold certification. The two make perfect musical sense, having performed the song live numerous times since then. Finneas has additionally produced tracks from Ashe’s previous albums and EPs, including her breakout hit single “Moral of the Story.”
The first whispers of a potential band came in February 2025. An anonymous Instagram account under the username @weshouldmakeaband began posting mysterious, vintage camcorder-style snippets of Finneas and Ashe making music. The two began sneaking hints on their respective Instagram accounts, most notably teasing the Austin City Limits festival lineup with a hidden artist slot – assumed to be for the new band.
Speculation increased, and rumors continued circling as the two began to confirm a collaboration through their live performances. It started with Ashe’s appearance at Finneas’ Los Angeles headline show in March, a part of the For Cryin’ Out Loud! Tour. The audience was lucky enough to experience the first live performance of a song by The Favors with, “Lake George,” which has still yet to be released. The debut single, “The Little Mess You Made,” was revealed in May while the two were on opposite sides of the globe: Ashe performed a small part of the song whilst opening for Gracie Abrams’ Australian tour run, and Finneas simultaneously performed it in Germany as a part of his own tour.
Soon after these performances, the official announcement was released in June via an Instagram post. “The Little Mess You Made” dropped on June 6, with the album subsequently releasing in September. With striking lyrics, an addictive melody, and layered vocals reminiscent of Taylor Swift and Bon Iver’s “exile,” it set an excellent tone for the band’s debut. The single has climbed to over 11 million Spotify streams to date.
Finneas and Ashe have continued to make a series of appearances at each other’s solo shows: Ashe’s Los Angeles headline in late June as part of the Trilogy Tour, Finneas’ BST Hyde Park set supporting Noah Kahan in early July, and most recently, Finneas’ Lollapalooza 2025 performance. After testing the waters with a multitude of live performances, drawing massive crowds and viral social media attention, The Favors officially announced their first run of United States headline shows: A small but mighty series of 3 shows in Los Angeles, Denver, and New York City. The pair will hit the road in mid-September.
This band has been in progress for nearly two years, with Finneas revealing via Instagram Story that the two began seeding the idea mid-2023. Between performances, they released another single on July 11, titled “The Hudson.” A romantic ballad that tugs at the heartstrings, it continued to generate excitement around the eventual release of the 10 remaining tracks on the album.
Drawing inspiration from timeless icons like Fleetwood Mac, the singer-songwriters have been pouring all of their love, desire, and emotion into their new work. Be sure to tune in now as they are only getting started, and through one of the strongest musical friendships this industry has seen, it is clear they aren’t going away anytime soon.
